To compare snapshots you have to tell File Buddy which two snapshots you want it to compare. You can do this in one of three ways:
- Select the two snapshots in the Finder and double-click them or drag them to File Buddy’s icon.
- Open one of the snapshot files in the Open Snapshot window and click the Compare to Snapshot button, then select the second snapshot from the resulting open file dialog.
- Use the command. You will be shown two open file dialogs for selecting the snapshots.
File Buddy will then let you provide the name for a folder into which the results of the comparison will be placed.
When File Buddy compares the snapshots, it reports the results in text and list files which it stores in the comparison results folder. The exact number of files generated will depend on the results of the comparison. The list files can be opened in a List window to access the items in the file.
The text files contain the full pathnames of the items that have been deleted, modified, replaced, moved, or created between the times the two snapshots were taken. The list files can be used to view the new, modified, replaced, or moved items in a file list window. Any files with no entries in them will be removed once the comparison is complete.
